Author Karen Tripson will review The Food Explorer: True Adventures of the Globe Trotting Botanist Who Transformed What Americans Eat written by Daniel Stone.

This is the story of David Fairchild, a young botanist who, at the end of the 19th century, set out in search of foods that would enable the American farmer and enchant the American eater. With a lust to explore and experience the world, Fairchild is credited with helping America develop the most diverse food system ever. David Fairchild’s most well-known accomplishment today is the Fairchild Gardens in Coconut Grove, Florida, designed by William Lyman Phillips, who also designed the original McKee Jungle Gardens. Author Daniel Stone is a staff writer for National Geographic.

Karen Tripson has had a long career as a writer in several industries. This means she has had a lot of jobs: full-time, part-time, freelance, day jobs and night jobs. Her longest-term gig is her blog Cooking and Reading Everyday where you can learn about the books she loves and the best dinner parties. About ten years ago Karen promoted herself to novelist–the greatest job she has ever had. So far, she has written three novels and is working on a fourth. Her characters cook, taste wine, travel the world and fall in love later in life.
